BMI The Sandringham Hospital
Television presenter David Whiteley raised a glass to an alcohol-free month David, a presenter on BBC East’s magazine programme Inside Out, took part in a Dry December project where various BBC employees throughout the country stayed off alcohol for the entire month.
A marathon runner and keen surfer, David was given a full health check at BMI The Sandringham at the beginning of the month by Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist Dr Rajarathnam Mathialagan and nurse Karen Collins.
On his return to the hospital he was “pleasantly surprised” to find that not only had he lost weight but that results from every single test had shown improvement. The programme, on Monday January 9 at 7.30pm, will show David having his tests as well as talking to Dr Mathialagan about his results and the benefits of cutting down on his alcohol intake.
After receiving his test results David, who also presents the Saturday morning show on BBC Radio Norfolk, said: “I was pleasantly surprised, almost shocked, when I discovered the change in my blood pressure. Losing about seven pounds in weight was also a bit of a bonus! “Doing without alcohol for the most festive month of the year was a real challenge and there were a few times when I almost gave in. However, I’ m really pleased I stuck at it and I now plan to keep and even closer eye on my drinking habits in the future.
“Everyone at BMI Sandringham was very helpful - Karen the nurse even made giving blood samples bearable – while having Dr Mattie (Mathialagan) talk me through the various results was very useful. “I think it will make for a very interesting programme that will certainly create a lot of talking points.”
